Position Summary

Inpatient coding position that codes and abstracts inpatient records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement and research. Codes and enters diagnostic and procedure codes into the designated coding and abstracting system utilizing the 3M encoder, as appropriate. Meets qualitative and quantitative coding standards and demonstrates the ability to navigate an EMR. Ability to code any inpatient at any Centura facility

Minimum Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required, Associate Degree preferred Minimum successful completion of coding certificate program Demonstrate intermediate to advanced technical coding competency in coding with current Coding and Indexing systems Knowledge of disease management, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology and coding systems (i.e. 3M)

Minimum Experience Requirements

A minimum of 1-3 years coding experience in an acute care setting Must demonstrate competency of inpatient coding guidelines and DRG assignment Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and emails and troubleshooting computer problems Experience working remotely preferred

License/Certifications

Prefer current AHIMA credentials (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC credential (CPC)

Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )

■Accurately assigns codes from the current Coding and Indexing systems for inpatient accounts, creates DRG group assignments while adhering to coding guidelines, regulations and compliance plan.*

■Accurately abstracts pertinent information from inpatient records into the designated computer system and utilizes reports effectively for follow up. *

■Ability to communicate well verbally and written, stay organized and demonstrate effective time management skills. *

■Meets qualitative and quantitative standards. *

■Demonstrates proficiency of designated coding and abstracting system, 3M encoder, online resources and electronic medical record (EMR). *

■Actively seeks to promote and helps to maintain a professional, team-oriented, service-conscious environment, which contributes to the goals of the department and reflects the values of the system. *
