_Job Summary_

Under direct supervision of the Outpatient Coding Manager, directs the Coding Service Center outpatient coding operations to include; personnel management, training and education, productivity, work assignments, quality reviews, and report management; Facilitates and promotes standardization of coding operations across Centura and in alignment with the system. Manages the DNB and coding compliance to ensure alignment and support of achieving corporate/service center and hospital financial goals. Demonstrates knowledge of the Claim edits and works closely with other departments within Revenue Management. Works with the Outpatient Coding Service Center team to improve accuracy, integrity and quality of patient data, to ensure minimal variation in coding practices. Assists with Claim edits and coding production, as needed. Assists in supervision of other areas within the Coding Service Center when needed.

_Minimum Experience Requirements_

  • A minimum of 2-4 years coding experience in an acute care setting.

  • One-year supervisory experience or 1-2 years in a Lead role, preferred.

  • Must demonstrate competency of outpatient coding as well as coding guidelines.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows applications and emails and troubleshooting computer problems.

  • Charge Capture experience, preferred.

_Education Requirement_

  • Associates Degree or equivalent experience required

_License/Certifications Requirement_

  • Current AHIMA credentials (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CCS-P) or AAPC credential (i.e. CPC, CPC-H, COC, CIC) required or must acquire certification within 6 months of hire

_Job Responsibilities (essential functions identified with a *)_

  • Effectively supervises personnel and coding operations to achieve department and organizational goals.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in managing DNB, coder productivity and quality to ensure alignment and support of achieving corporate/service center and hospital financial goals. *

  • Demonstrates proficiency in coding and abstracting outpatient accounts while adhering to coding guidelines, regulations, and Centura Health’s coding compliance plan. *

  • Facilitates and/or assists with coding training, education and development of coding guidelines and policies and procedures. *

  • Actively seeks to promote and helps to maintain a professional, team-oriented, service-conscious environment, which contributes to the goals of the team and reflects the values of the system. *

  • Works with the outpatient coding team to improve the coding accuracy, integrity and quality of patient data, to ensure minimal variation in coding practices. *

  • Assists with audit reviews, as needed, and performs them in a timely manner and effectively communicates feedback to stakeholders. *

  • Assists in the denial process with physician engagement and involvement in writing appeal letters, communication to facilities on high risk documentation issues and collaborates in educational opportunities. *

  • Works with Audit and Education, CSC leaders and Coding III to identity and coordinate educational sessions for the coding team. *

  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff and other customers and follow up in a timely manner. *

  • Facilitates and promotes standardization of coding operations across Centura and the Coding Service Center. *

  • Ability to troubleshoot computer issues for remote associates.
