This position is based at St. Mary Corwin in Pueblo but ultimately reports to the leadership at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, CO.

_Schedule:_ Full Time; at least three 12-hour shifts per week; days to be determined.

_Shift:_ Variable; shift will begin between the hours of 11a and 1p and end 12 hours later. This position generally hires paying between $14 - $17.75/hr depending on experience and proficiency; in addition to this base rate, an evening shift differential of $2.75 is paid for hours worked between 3 - 11p; night shift diff of $5.75 is paid for hours worked between 11p - 7a.

*Job Summary*

Operates the Flight For Life ground ambulances in a safe, professional efficient manner. Is accountable for compliance with maintenance schedules, daily readiness of the vehicles, and overall cleanliness. Provides patient care within the ALS/BLS program and the BLS scope of care. Provides clinical assistance to other team members, the Emergency Departments and the Business Office within the scope of the EMT role.

*Minimum Experience Requirements*

Two years of experience as a licensed EMT

Two years of experience driving an ambulance

Familiarity with Pueblo metro and rural areas

*Education Requirement*

High School Diploma or GED

*License/Certifications Requirement*

  • Current Colorado State EMT certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from American Heart Association

  • IV certification within 2 months of hire

  • Completion of Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVOC or CVEO) within 6 months of hire/transfer and Valid Colorado driver’s license and no moving violations for past two years

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 12 months of hire/transfer for EMT’s doing BLS transports.

*Job Responsibilities (essential functions identified with a * )*

  • Drives safely and in compliance with traffic laws and Flight For Life policies, including all Code 3 operations to maximize safety of all occupants and other vehicles’ occupants. *

  • Maintains compliance with maintenance schedules for the ambulances. *

  • Performs daily checks of fluid levels, tire pressures, fuel, electrical systems and medical gas pressures. *

  • Maintains cleanliness of ambulance interior and exterior. Participates in decontamination of ambulance and equipment when necessary. *

  • Keeps vehicle stocked according to supply list. *

  • Is knowledgeable re geography of area and routes to referring facilities, airports, etc. Maintains radio communications with Flight For Life Communication Center and local facilities and agencies when needed. *

  • Tracks and reports loaded mileage to Flight For Life Communication Center and/or medical crew. *

  • Oversees and participates in safe loading and offloading of the ambulance. *

  • For ALS and Critical Care Transport, under the direction of the medical crewmembers, obtains vital signs, puts patient on monitor, assists in moving the patient to the stretcher, and other patient care duties as assigned. For BLS Transport, provides direct patient care in accordance with Flight For Life Clinical Guidelines. Maintains familiarity with all medical equipment. *

  • Provides reassurance and comfort to family members. Demonstrates compassion in interactions with families and patients. Assists in the ED with patient care within scope of practice and hospital guidelines, except in activities that would prevent an immediate response for a patient transport. *

  • Provides assistance to Flight Operations administrative staff as requested, and is accountable for completing/continuing assignments. *

  • Participates in marketing activities involving Flight For Life programs. *

  • Provides complete and accurate report at receiving facility. *

  • Documents patient care activities in a timely manner, maintaining confidentiality. *

  • Assists in training Flight For Life EMT staff, and other hospital personnel. *

  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives. *

  • Attend meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy. *

  • Adheres to all State/Federal regulatory standards and all accreditation requirements. *

  • Demonstrates effective time management and is proactive in prioritizing workload and meeting productivity requirements. *

  • Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, census and staffing through priority setting and flexibility. *
